THEME: MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY: THE SECURITY CHALLENGE
The Nigerian economy has in recent times been bedeviled by the problem of insecurity which has greatly hampered the growth of management and sustainability of the economy. Nigeria faces three critical problems in these times: Insecurity, corruption and a variety of economic challenge’s, some of which are self-inflicted. Perhaps, the common denominator in this misery Index is the Security problem. It is the one factor that stultifies every attempt at meaningful development. The present international conference is aimed at exploring avenues for sustained growth and development. The conference shall seek solution to the persistent challenges of insecurity across the land. We offer the nation an opportunity to “turn out swords into plough shares, and spears into pruning hooks”.

THEME: MANAGING NIGERIA ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION: LESSONS FROM OTHER CLIMES
LEAD PAPER PRESENTER: MR. ISAAC OKOROAFOR (DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATION, CBN)
KEY NOT SPEAKER: DR ABRAHAM NWANKWO (FORMER DIRECTOR-GENERAL, DEBT MANAGEMENT OFFICE, ABUJA)
Nigeria has the potential to become a major player in the global economy by virtue of its human and natural resources endowment. This potential has remained relatively untapped over the years because of over-reliance on the downstream sector of the economy. The growth of Nigeria has continued to be driven by consumption and high oil prices. Previous economic policies left the country ill-prepared for the collapse of crude oil prices and production. The structure of the economy remains highly import dependent, consumption driven and undiversified. The central question in the minds of Nigerians today is: What is government doing to pull the economy out of the present situation? Tough time requires tough and bold actions. This is where economic diversification comes in with the aim of restoring growth and macroeconomic stability, industrialization, Agriculture, Powe sector, energy flow, investing in our people, infrastructural development as well as building a competitive economy.
The conference is therefore a critical effort towards bringing together scholars, researchers and policy makers from all fields of endeavour to search for ideas and proffer solutions to the problem and challenges associated with diversification and lessons from other countries. The conference will be underpinned by the need to generate strong advocacy capable of helping individuals, firms, institutions and Government to pull through the economic stronghold of managing diversification.
