The history of Nnamdi Azikiwe University dates from 1980 when it was one of the campuses of the defunct Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) Following the creation in 1991 of the former Anambra State into two states (Anambra and Enugu States) each of the two campuses of ASUTECH (Awka and Nnewi) assumed the status of a university. The Awka Campus became Nnamdi Azikiwe University. In 1992,the Federal Government of Nigeria took over the University from Anambra State. Nnamdi Azikiwe University, thus, became a Federal University. Since then, the University, though handicapped by no initial take-off grant, has recorded astronomical developments both in infrastructure and the quality of her academic programmes. Today, we have pride in the modern architecture that adorn the University. The University also boasts of quality education, academic stability and a credible academic culture. It came as no surprise, therefore, when the National Universities Commission (NUC) after the 2005 Accreditation visits rated our University as third in the country in terms of her governing council and, the University Vice Chancellor (VC), as the No. 2 Vice Chancellor in the nation. The University has continued to record more improvements and successes. The University is building enduring partnerships through diverse linkages with many Universities and organisations across the globe. With these and so many other achievements, our University has been described as “The University of the Moment”; and gradually inching to becoming “The University of All Times”. Whatever your reasons for choosing or visiting this University, you will find us doubly committed to providing an accessible high quality learning environment, that is conducive, open, credible, innovative, challenging and enterprising a we hope you will be attracted by what we have to offer. We look forward to welcoming you and to supporting your academic journey in the coming years. Welcome to Nnamdi Azikiwe University !
