WELCOME TO FACULTY OF Biosciences

The Faculty of Biosciences is committed to preparing students for a career in the world of Biological sciences which encompasses courses in Applied Biochemistry,Applied Micrbiology & Brewing,Botany,Parasitology & Entomology and lastly Zoology.It is a multidisciplinary faculty designed to deliver curriculum for Diploma programmes, Bachelor Degree(Regular), Continuing Education Programme, Sandwich Programme, Post Graduate Diploma, Master\'s Degree(MSc/M.Ed) and Doctorate(Ph.D) as well as to perform cutting edge research.

Vision and Mission Statement

In line with the mission of the University, the faculty aims at producing graduates who possess the under-listed attributes:

 (i)         Objectives

(a).        In the various programs of the Faculty, the broad objective is to develop students ability to observe, record, understand, evaluate and synthesize scientific data, and

(b).        to apply such knowledge as has been imparted to them to solve real life problems in the areas of science and technology.

           (ii)     Admission Requirements

(a)  Admission through University Matriculation Examination (UME). All the disciplines in the Faculty require five “O” level credits obtained in not more than two sittings which must include Mathematics and a minimum of a pass in English Language

 For Applied Biochemistry, Applied, Microbiology and Brewing, Botany, Zoology and Parasitology and Entomology, the five credits must include Biology/Health Science, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics. 

 All the other disciplines require a credit in Mathematics and other credits as follows: Geological Sciences, any three of Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science or Health Science.  For Mathematics any two of Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Physics and Statistics:

 For Physics and Industrial Physics, Physics and a minimum of a pass in Chemistry: For Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Chemistry, English Language, Mathematics or Physics. For Statistics, any two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, Geography or Agriculture Science.

 (b)        Direct Entry

Candidates are required to hold “a” level in two subjects as follows:Applied Microbiology and throwing and Biological Sciences Biology, and Chemistry or Physics or Mathematics. Applied Biochemistry – Chemistry, and Biology or Health Science. Geological Sciences – Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geography. 

Candidates with OND in Engineering or Sciences with at least a minimum of lower credit  may be considered.  Mathematics and Computer Science – Mathematics/Additional Mathematics and any one of Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Physics and Statistics. Agricultural Science or Health Science is accepted in place of Biology.   Physics and Industrial Physics – Physics and Mathematics. Pure and Industrial Chemistry – Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics. Statistics – Mathematics or Statistics and any of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics or Agricultural Science.

 (iii) Duration of Program

(a)                  UME Entrants:  Four years

(b)                 Direct Entrants:   Three years
