WELCOME TO FACULTY OF Social Sciences

At Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, the faculty of Social Sciences embodies that scholarly and scientific discipline that deals with study of human society and of individual relationships in and to society. It concentrates its study or research in departments such as Economics, Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology & Anthropology. All department offer a regular four year Bachelor of Science Degree program,full time and part-time Masters Degree Programme, full time and Part-time Doctorate program, Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma programs and finally continuing education programmes.

To advance the frontiers of knowledge in Social Sciences by nurturing disciplined, self-reliant and excellent manpower that will fit into the demands of the present and future national and increasingly globalized world.

To be an excellent Social Science faculty that responds to the needs of our immediate community as well as provides impetus for socio-political and economic development.

To create a socially relevant social science that consistently meets the needs of students as well as fulfills the aspirations of the Nigerian society and that of Africa

 To create a highly enabling environment that motivates and inspires the students to compete and excel in their chosen academic discipline.

 To structure a faculty that inculcates the values of self discipline, reliance and unwavering dedication to the pursuit of excellence and creativity. 

 (iii)       Admission Requirements

(a)        Admission Though University Matriculation Examination (UME), Candidates for this mode of entry should possess five “O” level credits obtained in  not more than two sittings which must include English Language.  Those majoring in Economics in addition

should possess a credit in Mathematics, while for the other academic programs, a pass suffices.  Those intending to read Psychology must obtain a credit in Biology or Health Science, while for Political Science, a credit in Government or History is required.

 (b)        Direct Entry

Candidates for direct entry should possess any of the following: Two “A” level passes in relevant subjects obtained in one sitting OR OND with at least upper credit OR NCE, HND or 1st Degree.

  (iv)        Duration of Program

(a)        UME Entrants:  Four years

(b)        Direct Entrants: Three years
