WELCOME TO FACULTY OF Arts

The Faculty of Arts is committed to preparing students for a career in the arts and entertainment sector.It is a multidisciplinary faculty designed to deliver the arts curriculum to students and to engage in performances such as live demonstrations in theatre and music. It has nine departments: African / Asian StudiesEnglishHistory & International StudiesLinguisticsModern European LanguagesMusicPhilosophy,Religion & Human Relations and Theatre Arts.

To strive to break the bounds of all stereotypes which impede progress. It is determined in its endeavour to propel itself to greater heights and make every stakeholder in the organization reap the fruits and dividends of Arts and humanistic studies which it embraces.

 Mission Statement

The Faculty of Arts has resolved to work relentlessly to make itself a centre of excellence and scholarship especially in the promotion of studies in the Liberal arts and the Humanities. It therefore hopes to project Nnamdi Azikiwe University on a global map of the artistic world and institutionalize the cultural heritage of our people

 (i)         Admission Requirements

(a)        Admission Through University Matriculation Examination (UME). All Departments in the Faculty require five “O” level credits obtained in not more than two sittings, which must include English Language.

 Degrees Awarded Additional “O” level requirements are as follows:

English Language and Literature: credit in Literature in English and any other arts subject. 

Linguistics: credit in any Nigerian language.

History and International Studies: credit in History/Government.

Philosophy: credit in Arts or Social Sciences subject and at least a pass in Mathematics. Religious and Human Relations: a credit in Religious Knowledge. 

Music and Theater Arts: credits in Music and one Nigerian language and a pass in an audition test set by the Department; for Theater Arts, credit in Arts and Literature in  English.

(b)        Direct Entry:

In addition to satisfying the UME requirements, candidates for direct entry should possess any of the following: Two “A” level passes in the relevant subjects OR NCE at the level of at least a merit in the relevant subjects OR OND with a minimum of upper credit in the relevant subjects.

(iii)       Duration of Programs

                        (a)        UME Entrants: Four years

                        (b)        Direct Entrants:  Three year.
