A total of 2336 students received the long awaited 2004/2005 SIWES Allowance. The beneficiaries who graduated from this University some 3 years ago who were on the national service, NYSC were alerted.
A total of N35.04 million collected from ITF Headquarters Jos by the SIWES Cordinator, Engr. J.A. Okeke was fully disbursed within 3 days after a very highly stressful 3 weeks clearance of the students.
It should be remembers that as a result of a delay in the provision of fund by the Federal Government for this payment, various anonymous petitions were sent to the EFCC indicating both the institution and the SIWES Unit of irregularities. In one case, covered in the Sunday Vanguard, the NUC and EFCC were requested to probe the SIWES Unit for refusal to pay the allowance which was alleged to have been received by the institution. By the payment, the 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 allowances are still outstanding.

Chidolue of the department of Civil Engineering for three months salary advance to enable him complete his residential family house at Awka. The request was turned down because it did not fall within the category of staff interest covered by the University Policy on loan.
Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has directed the Registrar to write a thank you letter to Mrs. Juliana I. Uzoukwu who had in a letter of commendation praised the University Staff and Students for the warm reception given to her on a visit to the University to collect some data.

- CONVOCATION: Management reiterated that the test of success of the Convocation is that it must be at zero cost. Therefore, the Convocation Committee should seriously source for sponsor. The Chairman of the Convocation Committee, Prof. B.C.E. Egboka, emphasized that they have been approaching establishments and individuals for sponsorship. He reported that the list of graduands sent by school of Postgraduate Studies has been vetted and sent back to them for final correction. The Deputy Registrar (Council), Mr. G.I. Ojukwu, informed Management that a Task Force has been set up to work on the list of graduands from Monday, 17 th to Wednesday, 19 th March, 2008, to produce a fine and final copy of the list.

Odimegwu to help indigent students in the Department of Philosophy cover their study expenses. The scholarship intended to operate as Foundation/ endowment by willing individuals each providing the sum of N250, 000.00. In each case the person who sourced the fund will get 10% of N250,000.00 while the other 10% will be used to organize UNESCO World Philosophy Day.
- Management thereafter directed the Registrar to inform the Dean of Arts that:
- Their decision to pay commission to any person for sourcing fund is against the University Policy.
- Payment of commission amounts to breach of trust on the part of the University to the donee.
- The Dean has to confirm to Management that no such money has been paid.
- And for these reasons, the University will not get involved until the Department offers a satisfactory explanation.
- APPEAL FOR LENIENCY: Management considered the appeal letter from Prof. Achonacho, A.O. and Mr. Ufuoma Ighomuaye on the gross misconduct of their brother, Solomon Patrick, a former student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Reg. No. 2004264832 who was expelled from the University and pointed out that the situation was so unruly that the security man had to shoot into the air to disperse the students and the Dean of Engineering in the process was pushed down by the students. Both were Diploma students of the Department of Entrepreneurial Studies. Management found established prima facie case that the above-mentioned two male students took part in the robbery because there were three positive identifications of them as the robbers. Therefore , Management approved that :
a. the two students be suspended, and
b. be sent to the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
The Vice-Chancellor may take part in the Committee’s sitting if it is organized early enough.
