in what could be likened to be a sermon obviously elated Prof. Ilochi Okafor (SAN) stood up, took calculating steps in front of the UMC and spoke in a manner that stupefied the UMC. He preached courage, unity among UMC members and continued hardwork. He advised the two deputy Vice-Chancellors to cooperated with each other as one of them must succeed him come May 26, 2008. he said the decision on who would succeed him rests on the Federal Government but he advised that whoever emerges must be supported by the other person and the entire UMC. Prof. Okafor also recounted the various attempts to remove him from office, hatched at high quarters but stated that all the attempts failed because of the Grace of God.

One good thing about all the speeches is the repeated mention of motherly disposition of the VC’s wife Lady Egosonwa Okafor who was acknowledged as having contributed to the success of Prof. Okafor and the UMC by her moderating role.
