2007/2008 STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT OF UNIZIK SWORN-IN

NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY

The Students Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka for the 2007/2008 academic session has been sworn-in.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony at the University auditorium on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, the representative of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof B.C.E. Egboka commended the out-going executive, the electoral commission and the in-coming executive. Prof Egboka who is the Deputy Vice-chancellor (Administration) said that student Unionism is a positive venture and is usually for very bright students who can take the pain in leading others. He told the students that the era of corruption is over and urged them to be disciplined and imbibe financial prudence in the handling of the resources of the union.

In his own remarks, the dean, students’ affairs, Prof Emeka Ezeonu charged the in-coming executive to be united. He expressed the joy that the election was free and fair. The dean called on the new executives to work within the framework of the law. He called on them to utilize the services of the students centre as well as informing them of the University management position in their living amongst the students they lead other than living outside the hostels. The executive was given one week ultimatum to park into the hostel or the officer will relinquish his/her post.

Delivering his inaugural address, the new president comrade Anago Thankgod Chibuike of the Department of Philosophy commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ilochi Okafor SAN for his “innovative and purposeful leadership”. He promised to uplift the image of the institution through his TEN POINT AGENDA which is hinged on ensuring a conducive environment for learning in the institution; defence of the students rights; collaborating with the University management in ensuring steady academic calendar and the promotion of academic excellence and discipline.

The highpoint of the occasion was the administering of oath of office by the dean of Student’s Affairs, Prof Emeka Ezeonu. The Vice-President Miss Adaobi Ibeanu, a 300 level Law Student gave the vote of thanks

Present during the occasion were the Chief Security Officer, Head, Department of Philosophy, some past leaders of SUG, and members of the fourth Estate of realm.
