MESSAGE FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR

Our Bulletin assumes from this edition vast changes in format, content and scope. Commencing with this edition, our Bulletin will come every fortnight. We aim at constantly updating the great events and strides our University continues to record and will also offer opportunity to stakeholders to freely discuss our University, both the positive things they cherish and the areas where they expect improvements. To continue to remain relevant, we must continually improve our attitudes, our perceptions, vision, mission and objectives.

I welcome our old students who are resuming for the 2007/2008 academic session after the three-month long vacation. This is the second long vacation we have enjoyed back to back and I am sure you are all coming back fully refreshed and energized for the great tasks you will face this session. Our fresh students will join us in about a fortnight and they are coming to us after a most serious and rigorous admission exercise. Today, we can proudly boast of an exercise dependent on merit and devoid of admission racketeering and corruption. No wonder our fresh crop of students show better promise than in the past years.

Our staff continue to show great commitment in their teaching and research. We are all committed to keeping UNIZIK amongst the top Universities in Nigeria and Africa. Only last week, eighteen (18) staff were promoted Professors and five (5) Readers, for a total of about ninety (90) Professors in the University.

Our ICT Programme is still rated among the best in the country and was substantially endorsed and adopted by the Federal Government as the approved ICT Programme for Nigerian Universities. We have enjoyed relative stability free from strike for the past five years. We are glad that the University is in a position to provide a conducive environment for a hardworking student to graduate at and when due.

Our University has seen great infrastructural development affording us better facilities in an environment largely free from cultism and strife. I enjoin all staff and students to pledge towards improving and not merely maintaining our present standards, aspirations and profile .

Great UNIZIK!
