UNIZIK MEDICAL STUDENTS SHARE EXPERIENCES

THE four UNIZIK medical Students that attended three months clinical studies at the New York Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn have been sharing their experiences.

In a filmed news sequence captured by the African Independent Television (AIT) recently, the four students who gained experiences in paediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, emergency medicine and surgery expressed their feelings on the scope of the programme.

According to Uchenna Njideofor, “my favorite part of the programme was that it allowed me to gain first hand experience in patient care and management”. The student focused his studies at the Hospital on emergency medicine and paediatrics.

In his own account, Uwadiegwu Okoroafor stated that, “In Nigeria, you spend the majority of your time learning from textbooks whereas in the United States, students get a more practical education”. He studied internal medicine and emergency medicine while at the hospital.

Although the students spent most of their time studying at the Hospital, they also had time to explore the city, Broadway and ice-cream. According to Susan Ezemanari, “in Nigeria we just have chocolate or vanilla ice cream but here you have so many good flavours”. She studied internal medicine and surgery. To cap it up, she said that they had a wonderful experience staying in New York and deemed themselves so fortunate to have been chosen to participate in the programme.

You may recall that the students were chosen out of 110 of their peers for the programe based on academic performance.
